The Compost Division is responsible for converting yard
waste into usable compost and mulch. The Compost Center
is located at 15th & Broadway, Monett, MO. This facility
was made possible by funding from the City of Monett,
Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District, and
the Department of Natural Resources Solid Waster Management
Programs.
Compost: Compost adds organic matter
and helpful microorganisms to your soil. It is made from
yard wastes, including leaves, grass clippings, cornstalks,
hay or straw, wood chips, and other plant debris, which
are windrowed regularly for decomposition to occur. The
materials are then screened to uniform size and texture.
Mulch: Mulch is made from chipped brush.
It absorbs rainfall and runoff, therefore preserving moisture
in the soil.
The following items can be dropped off for composting:
brush, leaves, grass, hay, straw, and yard waste.
