Water Department investigating concerns

The Monett Water Department is investigating the source of an unusual odor and taste in the city water supply.
Following reports from community members in the north-east areas of the city, the Water Department began testing the water and flushing lines and attempting to identify the source of the issue.
No bacteria or harmful elements have been detected in the water and it is safe to consume.
By Wednesday morning, the Water Department had identified Well 12 as the origin of the issue. Well 12 has been turned off and as water from that well makes its way through the water system throughout the next day or two, the smell and taste of the city’s water should return to normal.
The Water Department is continuing to test the well in an effort to identify the cause of the issue and remedy the problem.
The City of Monett tests the city water and reports results to the Department of Natural Resources every day to ensure that the city’s drinking water is safe to consume.
Crews hope further lab testing of Well 12 this week will identify a cause of the odor and taste and lead to a treatment plan to eliminate the issue and return the well to service as quickly as possible.
