Administrative Professionals Day

   Administrative Professionals
When most people think of “the City,” they conjure images of local police officers, firefighters and the elected City Council. However, the City of Monett employs more than 130 individuals in a number of positions, and every length of pipe, every check that is paid and received, every load of pavement that is placed is managed by someone who is often working behind the scenes to keep the city moving forward.

The City of Monett has a team of nearly a dozen administrative professionals who manage everything from purchasing and ordering, to timekeeping, to answering phones and helping maintain schedules and communications between the 130-plus city employees.

The city’s administrative professionals have a combined 50-plus years of experience bringing quality service to the community in a variety of capacities and are often overlooked by community members.

Some residents see these staff members on a monthly basis, some will only come across them if they need permits for a home renovation, or if they are experiencing a crisis that has them working with police, court, or fire personnel. But the fact remains that they’re a backbone of city operations and business would literally grind to a halt without their daily care and dedication.

Monett’s administrative professionals work within various city departments including public works, the police department, at City Hall, Building and Code Enforcement and utilities to support field staff and management with everyday operations, big and small. While we as community members may not always encounter these staff members, they are always there, working to support our community, and for that, they deserve our appreciation.

“Monett is lucky to have such a dedicated team working in each department to help keep us all moving forward,” said City Administrator Chris Weiner. “I would like to express my personal thanks to each and every one of them.”

Nationwide, there are more than 4 million administrative professionals employed across various industries who are dedicated to keeping businesses running smoothly. These individuals play crucial roles in fields like healthcare, finance, education, and technology, ensuring that daily operations run without a hitch.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of administrative assistants is projected to grow by 7 percent from 2020 to 2030, reflecting the continued demand for these essential roles in the modern workplace.

A study by the American Management Association found that the average administrative professional handles over 100 tasks per day, ranging from answering phones and filing paperwork to coordinating meetings and managing travel arrangements. Their ability to seamlessly switch between tasks and prioritize effectively is nothing short of impressive.
