The city has ordered a new Tymco 500x Street Sweeper for city operations. The new machine will be delivered later this year, but before it comes in, young attendees at Public Works Day will have an opportunity submit names for the new sweeper.
After Public Works Day, crews at the Public Works Department will pick their 10 favorite submissions, and the Monett Community will be given an opportunity to vote on their favorite name.
Public Works Day will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Public Works Building located at 59417th St. in Monett.
During the event, Public Works Crews will have displays of their equipment, including trash trucks, backhoes, loaders, graders, dump trucks, snowplows, and tractors. Youngsters will be able to get up close with some equipment, all in a safe environment and under the watchful eye of the city’s professionals.
The Public Works Crews will also be handing out a limited supply of activity books provided by the American Public Works Association for preschool to third grade students and the Parents As Teachers Organization will operate a booth during the event.
This is a free activity for families with young children and a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the community to get a look at the city’s equipment and interact with city crews.
The name of the new street sweeper will be unveiled later this year with vinyl name stickers, and the winner of the naming contest will be invited to get a photo with the new equipment and Public Works Crews.
